We invite you to #ChargeWithUs on September 22 to ensure the long-term protection of rhinos.
In the last century, the global rhino population has dropped from about 500,000 individuals to fewer than 27,000 due to decades of habitat loss and rampant poaching for their horns. This World Rhino Day we are focusing on working with governments to secure rhinos across Africa.
This #WorldRhinoDay, we’re sharing an incredible story of hope how our partner African Parks has worked with the Malawi Department of National Parks in Majete Wildlife Reserve to protect the Critically Endangered black rhinos. With just over 6,000 individuals left in the wild, reintroducing black rhinos to their former range is fundamental to recovering the species; they need a lot of space to roam and their densities cannot be too large in a single park. Once certain populations reach healthy levels, relocations help reduce overcrowding and seed new populations elsewhere.
