These powerful animals are threatened by poaching for their horns and habitat loss. Of the five remaining species of rhino, three of them—black, Javan, and Sumatran rhinos—are critically endangered, and as recently as 2018, the northern white rhino subspecies has gone extinct in the wild.
This World Rhino Day marks the second year of the Rhino Recovery Fund. Together during this time we’ve already done so much for rhinos—supporting 37 projects in 11 countries—in this short amount of time. We send every dollar donated straight to the field, investing in effective projects that are maintaining rhino populations in both Africa and Asia. See an example of your support in action—click here to read about incredible project work restoring hope for Mozambique’s rhinos through a courageous effort to curb poaching by dehorning wild rhinos.
