Mountainlands Release Area

Grantee Care For Wild Sanctuary
Type Coexistence
Grant Amount $100,000
Duration 1 year

As the orphaned rhino under Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary’s supervision begins to reach maturity, there is a dedicated effort to address their re-wilding and release. This falls within a holistic approach that Care for Wild has adopted toward biodiversity conservation, which considers the importance of the species, its effective protection and the development of partnerships with local communities that allow them to become invested in biodiversity conservation efforts through the provision of meaningful, equitable socio-economic benefits. The long-term sustainability of viable breeding populations is heavily influenced by space and the availability of critical resources. With the support of WCN and RFF, CFW will be re-wilding rhinos on the Mountainlands Nature Reserve after completing disease testing protocols.
