Gonarezhou Black Rhino Reintroduction

Grantee Frankfurt Zoological Society
Type Protected Area Management
Grant Amount $102,250
Duration 1 year

Gonarezhou Conservation Trust (GCT) is a strong management partnership between the Frankfurt Zoological Society and the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority. In 1994, black rhinos became locally extinct in Gonarezhou National Park. However, GCT has now created conditions that make new rhino reintroduction feasible. With aid from the RRF, GCT will reevaluate the Park’s security and strategy, establish more secured areas, and train more rangers, all in the hopes of reintroducing rhinos to the Park in 2021.
