Core Critical Operations Costs Appeal

Grantee Save the Rhino International (SRI) in partnership with Association of Private and Community Land Rhino Sanctuaries (APLRS), Kenya
Type Tackling Trade in Rhino Horn
Grant Amount $100,000
Duration 1 year

The COVID-19 crisis led to a total halt in Kenya’s tourism, leaving a number of rhino conservation groups facing a financial crisis from a major loss in revenue. Save the Rhino International requested funds from the Rhino Recovery Fund on behalf of the Association of Private and Community Land Rhino Sanctuaries (APLRS): an association of eight different wildlife organizations in Kenya. This funding went to the Core Critical Operations Costs Appeal that supported seven members of the APLRS in dire straits financially. The eight wildlife organizations that make up the APLRS collectively manage 895 rhinos in Kenya, which equates to 61.9% of the nation’s total population as of 2019. The seven members supported by the RRF work to prevent poaching, uplifting these seven sites in Kenya is crucial to protecting this critical population.
